Project Overview:
Commissioned by Brisbane City Council, this bespoke wallpaper mural was created for the Suburban Business Hub Nundah — a co-working and workshop space designed to support local businesses and entrepreneurs.
The 12.5m wide wall had previously functioned as a rotating gallery space. While well intentioned in supporting and promoting local creatives, its scale made it challenging to regularly curate, and the expansive wall often dwarfed smaller canvases. Council sought a more permanent solution — one that would anchor the space, reflect Nundah’s identity and enhance the everyday experience of those who work and gather there.
The outcome is a large-scale, custom-designed mural that integrates seamlessly with the existing fitout while transforming the wall into a meaningful focal point.

The Vision - Celebrating Nundah's Identity Through Public Art
This mural celebrates the heart and soul of Nundah — its village charm, native flora and fauna, heritage architecture and strong sense of community.
At its centre is a Tiny Giraffe signature hand-drawn map of Nundah, highlighting its walkability and unique geography. Streets and waterways that locals know and love are carefully illustrated, with Kedron Brook weaving gracefully through the middle — a defining natural thread that shapes the suburb’s character.
The map is framed by illustrations of significant heritage buildings including the Royal Hotel, Nundah State School and Toombul Shire Hall. Abstract watercolour forms subtly reference the Aboriginal meaning of “Nundah” — ‘Chain of Waterholes’ — grounding the work in layered cultural and environmental context.
To the right, a vibrant Rainbow Lorikeet perches above native Common Rush (Juncus usitatus), bringing colour, movement and a reminder of the thriving creek ecosystem that runs through the area.
Together, these elements reflect Nundah’s history, its ecology and its evolving modern identity.
From Concept to Installation
Brisbane City Council sought expressions of interest (EOI) from artists to develop a site-specific digital artwork for the Suburban Business Hub Nundah. The brief called for a design that would create a strong visual connection to Nundah while positively enhancing the space as a workplace for small businesses.
My design process began with in-depth research into Nundah’s history, built form and the Kedron Brook creek ecosystem. From there, I developed a detailed hand-drawn map concept supported by illustrative studies of local heritage buildings, flora and fauna. I submitted my concept design as part of the EOI process and was delighted to be selected as the commissioned artist.
The final artwork was prepared as a bespoke, large-scale vinyl mural. I collaborated closely with Brisbane City Council’s internal printing team to produce artwork files that met precise technical specifications for production at scale.
Council handled the installation and I visited during install day to ensure the design translated seamlessly from digital concept to finished wall. The result is a crisp, immersive mural that integrates confidently with the architecture and feels embedded within the space.

We had the pleasure of working with Kylie when she designed a customised mural for our Suburban Business Hub Nundah. Her dedication to developing a design to connect our co-working and workshop space to the local community was exceptional.
Designing a Commercial Mural for a Workplace Environment
Creating a commercial mural for a working environment requires more than artistic vision — it demands spatial understanding and collaboration.
I visited the site prior to design development to understand the existing internal layout, lighting conditions and fitout. The mural needed to complement the colourful furniture and energy of the hub without overwhelming it.
A soft, warm palette of pastel greens and oranges was selected to simultaneously uplift and calm, creating a welcoming atmosphere for focused work, collaboration and community events.
Working closely with the Suburban Business Hub team ensured the concept aligned with their goals for the space. The mural was designed not just as decoration, but as a visual anchor — strengthening workplace identity and reinforcing a sense of belonging for business owners and visitors alike.
The Impact
The completed mural transforms the Business Hub from a functional workspace into a place of connection.
By embedding local landmarks, waterways and native species into the interior, the wall becomes a daily reminder of shared place and community. It offers a moment of pause — an invitation to notice the beauty of local surroundings even within a professional environment.
More than filling a wall, the project demonstrates how thoughtful public art can strengthen civic spaces, enhance workplace experience and create long-term visual identity for councils and community hubs.
Media & Recognition
This project was featured by Brisbane City Council as part of their Business in Brisbane series, highlighting the role of public art in shaping vibrant business environments. I was delighted to be interviewed by the City Communications team to share my beliefs around art being the ultimate business asset.
