Brisbane Jacaranda and Fig Tree Murals for The Yards Apartments

Project Details:

Client: The Yards Apartments

Location: Bowen Hills, Brisbane

Size: Jacaranda - 5.8m high x 5.5m wide; Fig Tree - 9m W x 2.5m H

Materials: High-quality, non-woven, custom-designed wallpaper

Concept: Iconic Brisbane trees to connect local residents to place

Completed: March 2025

Nestled in Bowen Hills on leafy King Street, The Yards Apartments (originally designed by Lend Lease) now feature two bespoke murals that capture the spirit of Brisbane’s subtropical beauty.

Foyers, entryways and hallways are important movement and gathering spots, sadly often overlooked in building design with large, bare and uninspiring spaces. This project was a special opportunity to bring vibrancy to the building and transform the entry and arrival experience for residents and visitors alike. Through site-specific art we can transform spaces and deepen our sense of belonging.

Designed and illustrated by me (Kylie Harber of Tiny Giraffe), the two-storey Jacaranda mural and expansive Moreton Bay Fig tree mural celebrate our city’s most beloved trees — the uplifted canopy and lilac blooms, and the sense of calm and grounding they bring to urban life.

Digitally hand-drawn with fine detail and layered colour, these bespoke wallpaper murals connect residents to the natural rhythms of their surroundings, turning these everyday spaces and important gathering areas into living art.

Very happy with the two murals Tiny Giraffe supplied our apartment complex. They are vibrant, great quality and visually striking when you walk in the building. They look fantastic!
Highly recommend Kylie & her team!

Bespoke Two Storey Wallpaper Murals

The modern Yards Apartments feature two buildings — the North and South towers — connected by a central pool and garden area for social gathering and relaxing. I was commissioned to create custom-designed murals for the foyer of each building to complement The Yards’ contemporary architecture and outdoor space.

The Jacaranda artwork rises two storeys high within the South Tower's atrium foyer, while the fig tree mural stretches across an ultra-wide façade in the North Tower foyer.

When I first visited the site I realised that each foyer feature wall had a narrow blade wall attached - the perfect solution was to create a bespoke patterned wallpaper to make better use of the scale. In the North Tower, a fig leaf and fruit pattern runs above battens, immediately visible as you exit the lift. In the South Tower, the Jacaranda petal pattern faces the street, allowing for a delightful visual cue before the mural is revealed.

Originally this client was considering artwork for each lift area across both buildings. The benefit of working with a wallpaper designer means that you can design once, and print many times. If you are wanting large scale wall art across many walls (such as apartments, hotels and multi-city businesses), custom designed patterned wallpaper and wallpaper murals can be a cost effective strategy to achieve this.

Murals That Celebrate Places

Every mural begins with a story — of place, memory, and connection. Based in Brisbane, Tiny Giraffe creates bespoke wall murals that celebrate the essence of your space and connect the people who move through it.

If you’re ready to bring that vision to life, let’s create something beautiful together.
