Mining Office Mural for Epiroc

What's better than art?

Art AND branding, elegantly combined to transform your corporate office!

This special mural artwork sits at the heart of Epiroc's new Cannon Hill workspace, visible from nearly every desk, stretching across an 8m long U-shaped wall. It is a warm, inviting space with comfortable velvet blue chairs for quiet time or quiet chats, plus small tables for casual, inspired meetings.

It was a joy to work with the Epiroc marketing team alongside Amicus as they delivered the design and fitout – learn more about the design and see mural photos below.

Hannah Scott, Epiroc

"WOW WOW WOW. The mural is more than we all imagined….it is beautiful. You have done an amazing job and really captured everything we wanted. We love how the colours pop and you can see the mural throughout the office – it really brings energy into the office!"

Project Overview:

In our very first briefing meeting it was clear to me that Epiroc were a fun team, brimming with ideas and open to suggestions. They spoke about their history and services with pride and they acknowledged that the heart of their business is their people and the incredible things they achieve together.

In getting to know their business origin story and company values we were able to bounce around ideas. And in discussions with Amicus, I had a clear understanding of the materials and finishes they were working with. I wanted to create a space that didn't just look incredible, but felt like the essence of who they are and what they stand for.

While brainstorming the concept sketches, I wanted to pay homage to Epiroc's foundations in Stockholm and their office location in Brisbane, while offering an insight into their services, equipment and experience. From left to right, past to present.

In my earliest concepts, I started with a map (of course) – Stockholm's waterways offer beautiful shapes that only nature could create – but the design evolved to focus on Brisbane, being the location of the office. The final mural centres around the iconic and instantly recognisable curves of the Brisbane River.

The origin story was not lost!

The best way to keep it and to tell the story of 'then' and 'now' (or the 'there' and 'here') was through illustrations – from left to right, the mural features Swedish bluebells and cinnamon scrolls to dirty work boots and lemon scented gum leaves.

Incorporating Branding into Office Wall Art

Epiroc's branding is woven in effortlessly in a fun, modern way. I loved working with their branding style guidelines to create something special.

It gives me great pleasure to be able to bridge the gap between art and design, merging identifiable, memorable branding into an aesthetically pleasing, playful and joyful mural.

The mural features:

  • Over 40 hand drawn illustrations in organic linework

  • Pops of Epiroc yellow (straight from the brand style guidelines)

  • The Epiroc logo incorporated in a fun way

  • Amicus' renders became the base for my mural mockups - for visuals that offer certainty and excitement!

  • Hilarious, hidden details you have to know to look for.

  • The mural artwork was repurposed into a colouring-in page, printed for kids to enjoy on open day.

What an honour to be part of Epiroc's story!

"I had the absolute pleasure of working with Kylie and I can't recommend her highly enough. She brought so much creativity, clarity and positive energy to the process, and her artwork was the perfect complement of the space. She was responsive, easy to collaborate with, and made the whole experience feel effortless. I'd work with her again in a heartbeat!"
