"I’d love to use custom wallpaper… but it takes too long."
I've heard this many times, from both home owners and interior designers who are used to waiting up to 12 weeks or more for suppliers to ship their products from overseas.
It's a fair assumption, but it's unfounded.
This is a more detailed article that builds on my article: What To Know Before Hiring A Wallpaper Designer.

As an Australian wallpaper designer and mural artist specialising in bespoke, personalised wall art solutions for homes and businesses, I know that it's possible to complete a bespoke wallpaper project within a month.
I've worked to tight deadlines where needed for my hospitality and commercial fitout projects.
Below is an indication of how much time is required of the wallpaper designer, the client and the process as a whole.
How Much Time is Required of the Client?
The most time you'll need to put into this process of creating a custom wallpaper is the one hour conversation we'll have at the start of your project.
It's the initial consultation that does the heavy lifting.
It's one of my favourite parts of the project – learning about you. We get to meet over a coffee and I ask you questions about your space, your home or business, your family and friends, your values, lifestyle and preferences.
Most importantly, I get to learn about your stories and experiences – the beautiful things that shape who you are and the important moments of your life.
I listen with care. Then I take all of this information and use that to inform my concept sketches.
Beyond the initial consultation, you have the opportunity to review the artwork as it develops at different stages too.
Why I Created a Turnkey Wallpaper Design Service
I know people are busy, and they value their time — that's why I offer a turnkey service.
From initial consultation and briefing, to design, printing and installation, I take care of everything so you don't have to. This makes it an easy and enjoyable experience for you.
It also allows my clients to focus on one thing: considering what they would love most and enjoying the personalisation process I lead them through.
In the background I am working hard to make it a seamless and straightforward experience, taking care of measurements, artwork ideation and creation, file formats, print setup, printing and coordinating installation with my trusted wallpaper hangers.
How Much Time is Required of the Designer?
Most of my bespoke wallpaper projects are completed within 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the number of walls and design complexity. I am managing the project for the duration of the project, from idea to installation.
My process includes concept design sketches and detailed artwork creation. This is a process I borrowed from my previous career as a landscape architect and it works for good reason.
First, we explore a series of concepts through loose sketches to find the art direction that works best for the client. This can take a week or two.
The detailed artwork phase is a matter of turning the concept sketch into the final artwork and this can take between 2-4 weeks. Some of my hand-drawn and hand-painted city map wallpaper murals can take many weeks to draw if the map area is large or detailed.
Below I share with you a bit more about the timeline of working with a wallpaper designer on a bespoke wallpaper or wallpaper mural.
